 | | Theology (Orthodox Christianity) I believe that having a strong and healthy relationship with God and with each other (one's community) is essential in life. My experience with Orthodox Christianity has greatly assisted me in developing these relationships. Since almost all religions promote a sense of higher ethics or morality, as well as the worship of a greater being, what makes Orthodox Christianity any better or different than any of the other faiths? | | | Music Music is an important part of my life. Whether it's playing the guitar or listening to my favorite tunes, music is never far from me. Although I appreciate a wide variety of musical genres, from classical to jazz to hard rock, I am most interested in modern (80's/90's) new wave/European pop music. Some of my favorite artists (not necessarily new wave) are Sandra, Modern Talking, C.C. Catch, Depeche Mode, The Cranberries, Pet Shop Boys, and Sarah Brightman (I also appreciate many classic rock artists like The Beatles, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Asia, etc.). Descriptions of the first three bands (which are relatively obscure in the US) are listed here: |
| | | Sandra - German female pop artist of the 80's and 90's. Well established in Europe (perhaps the "Madonna" of the 80's in Europe), but relatively unknown in America. Married to Michael Cretu, her producer and the founder of the group Enigma. Perhaps best known for her breakthrough hit "(I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena" in 1985. A double compilation album, My Favorites, was released in 1999. It contained 12 remixed songs, as well as 12 of her original songs, all of which were selected by Sandra. In 2002, she released a new album titled, "Wheel of Time". Here are some interesting sites about her:

| | | Modern Talking - German pop group of the 80's (and 90's) consisting of Dieter Bohlen and Thomas Anders. Although they have been very successful in Europe, and much of the world, their exposure in the US has been quite limited. They disbanded in the late 80's, but regrouped again in the late 90's. A few of their big hits from the mid-80's include "You're My Heart, You're My Soul", "Cheri, Cheri Lady", "You Can Win If You Want', "Brother Louie", and "Atlantis is Calling". The amazingly talented Dieter Bohlen is also responsible for creating the groups C.C. Catch (see below), Blue System, as well as numerous other projects. Check out these sites for more information:

| | | C.C. Catch - Mid-80's German pop artist created by producer/songwriter Dieter Bohlen (of Modern Talking). The artist is identified by the singer Caroline "Caro" Catherina Muller, alias "C.C. Catch". Some of her biggest hits from the mid-80's include "Strangers By Night", "Cause You Are Young", "Back Seat Of Your Cadillac", "I Can Lose My Heart Tonight", "Heaven And Hell", and "Soul Survivor". In the late 90's, she resurfaced with several remakes of her old hits. To learn more about her, go to these sites:

| | | Sci-Fi/Comedy I have always had an affinity for Science Fiction, as well as certain comedy shows, particularly from Britain. Some of my favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy shows are Babylon 5, Doctor Who, Stargate SG-1, Star Trek, Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel, Battlestar Galactica, Blake's 7, and Red Dwarf. My favorite comedy shows include Seinfeld, Fawlty Towers, The Young Ones, Black Adder, and Absolutely Fabulous. I will provide a small biography on one of my favorite shows: Red Dwarf. Although the show has had significant exposure outside of Britain, its popularity still "dwarfs" (sorry for the pun) others such as Star Trek. Here's a little background: |
|

| | Red Dwarf - BBC Sci-Fi sitcom which might best be described as combination of Star Trek and Seinfeld. The show has been running since 1988, consisting of 8 Series with 52 episodes to date. There are plans to release a Red Dwarf Movie in the near future. What's Red Dwarf all about? Well, the introduction during the first series, given by Holly, the space ship's computer system, sums it up: "This is an SOS distress call from the mining ship Red Dwarf. The crew are dead, killed by a radiation leak. The only survivors were Dave Lister, who was in suspended animation during the disaster, and his pregnant cat, who was safely sealed in the hold. Revived three million years later, Lister's only companions are a creature who evolved from his cat, and Arnold Rimmer, a hologram simulation of one of the dead crew. I am Holly, the ship's computer with an I.Q. of 6,000. The same I.Q. as 6,000 P.E. teachers." As the series progressed, several other characters joined the group. A mechanoid (humanistic robot) named Kryten joined the team in Series 3. While Kristine Kochanski, Lister's ex-girlfriend from a parallel universe, joined in Series 7.
